About Smart Charging

What is Smart Charging?

If you have several chargers and/or charging systems, the power you need can be considerable. To keep this within limits, you can use Smart Charging through Blue Corner. In short, we ensure that you make optimal use of a limited total capacity to charge your electric vehicles, without ever exceeding that total capacity (which would always have unpleasant consequences).

What is load balancing?

Load balancing is the simplest form of Smart Charging. If you have several charge points, we can use load balancing to ensure that the available power is distributed evenly across the chargers that are currently being used. To give a simple example: suppose you have 22kW of power available and two installed charge points. If one car is charging, it will have the full 22kW at its disposal. If a second car is added, the Load Balancing system will switch back to 11kW per charger.

What is a Charge Network Controller (CNC)?

If you have several chargers on site, there is the option of having all the chargers communicate with the Blue Corner platform via one modem, and be controlled remotely. The first charger is therefore a fully communicating (smart) charger, the others (cheaper chargers without a modem) are linked to it. This saves you monthly data subscription costs and all the chargers can be managed and set up centrally. We call the first charger a Charge Network Controller. It is not only able to streamline all communication, but also has advanced Smart Charging possibilities with which all chargers (both those on the Smart Charger and those on the other chargers) can be controlled in a smart way.

What is Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB)?

If the available power for your charge points depends strongly on the other consumption (at home or at work), Dynamic Load Balancing offers a perfect solution. By constantly monitoring this other consumption, the total power for the charge points is adjusted at all times so that the maximum power at your location is never exceeded!
